The Woodseats Palace

This pub is a former cinema.

692 Chesterfield Road, Woodseats, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S8 0SD

Woodseats Palace was the name of the cinema built on this site in 1911. Reconstructed as a supermarket, 50 years later, it is now a Wetherspoon pub bearing the building’s original name.

Prints and text about The Woodseats Palace.

The text reads: The building now occupied by this Wetherspoon pub was once Woodseats Palace cinema.

Built in 1911, the Palace could accommodate up to 500 people in upholstered velvet seats at the back and tip-up benches at the front.

The Palace was enlarged in the 1920s when the much larger Chantrey Picture House opened nearby.

The Chantrey was the first to close, in 1959, whilst this building was converted into a supermarket two years later.
