The pub takes its name from Bridgwater’s famous carnival. First held in 1882, the carnival takes place on the first Saturday in November and can be traced back to the gunpowder plot of 1605 when Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators, failed in their attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The carnival claims to be the largest and most spectacular night-time event of its kind held anywhere in the world.
